RENO, Nev. – The Nevada Association of REALTORS® (NVAR) has received another national award for its 2012 “Face of Foreclosure” report highlighting issues and suggesting solutions to the state’s foreclosure crisis.
NVAR’s “Face of Foreclosure” report earned a silver award in the educational programs category in Association TRENDS’ 2012 All-Media Contest. It was one of more than 420 entries in the annual competition held exclusively for professional associations, recognizing the most creative and effective communication vehicles developed in the industry over the prior year
NVAR President Blane Johnson, a longtime REALTOR® based in Incline Village, Nev., said this latest honor “recognizes the hard work and expertise of NVAR’s members, staff and partners in creating this important report.”
“This report has truly put a face on the foreclosure issue in Nevada,” Johnson added. “It has helped homeowners, industry and government leaders gain valuable insight into this issue. It has also helped us propose potential solutions for moving the housing market forward.”
He said the report has also helped change Nevada laws, including:
· AB 273, a law sponsored by Assemblyman Marcus Conklin, ensured Nevada consumers can not be penalized through deficiency actions and that lending instruments, when sold to collection companies, do not hamstring homeowners from buying a home in the future.
· SB 314, a law sponsored by state Sen. John Lee, provided regulatory structure for property asset management companies that are “trashing out” foreclosed properties. Thanks to this law, asset managers now must be licensed and insured in Nevada.
· SB 414, a law sponsored by state Sen. Mike Schneider, required lenders to respond to short sale offers within 90 days to help cash-strapped homeowners.
NVAR will be honored at the 34th Annual Salute to Association Excellence, to be held Feb. 15, 2013 in Washington, D.C. This year’s All-Media Contest winners will also be featured in the January issue of TRENDS, and online.
This is the second such honor for NVAR’s annual “Face of Foreclosure” report, which earned a bronze award in the educational program category in the 2011 All-Media Contest.
